Time Between Overhaul describes the interval between major overhauls of a component. It sets the maximum service life—expressed in flight hours, cycles, or calendar time—before a complete overhaul is required to restore the item to a near-new condition. This concept is used to manage life-limited parts and ensure continued safety and reliability, per manufacturer and regulatory guidance. In practice, maintenance is planned around the TBO to avoid reaching a point where wear or damage could lead to failure. If you exceed the TBO or inspections reveal wear beyond limits, repair or replacement is required. The other options don’t represent an overhaul interval: they imply output, torque-related operation, or time before use, none of which define the scheduled major maintenance event.
